Marooned. (1969 film) Marooned is a 1969 American science fiction film directed by John Sturges and starring Gregory Peck, Richard Crenna, David Janssen, James Franciscus and Gene Hackman about three astronauts who are trapped and slowly suffocating in space. [3] It was based on the 1964 novel Marooned by Martin Caidin.
Betty Lloyd (Mariette Hartley) tries to console Buzz, who becomes hysterical. She starts reading a letter she's written to the President (John Forsythe). He interrupts her and says everybody blames him because everything's falling apart. The launch of the rescue mission can't be accomplished because of the bad weather.
Directed by. John Sturges. John Sturges' "Marooned" demonstrates convincingly that it will be a long time before a space movie comes along to outclass "2001: A Space Odyssey." Having seen Stanley Kubrick's infinitely detailed sets and special effects, we're no longer willing to settle for conventional models -- no matter how well done.
