The competition brief concerned the restructuring of the present Palazzo del Cinema, in order to make it fully compliant to the Biennale’s activities and to other cultural events held at any time of the year. So there will be not just a Cinema Building any more, but a large and complex public building.
The domineering presence of the Casino Excelsior Hotel, which separates the Palazzo from the Casino, reinforces such frontal character. The cinemas are designed in conformity with well-known types. The screen is the most important feature of a cinema, and in both cases the space builds around it. The seating scheme is clear enough.
