Park Locations and Amenities. In 1959, the City of Minnetonka received plans for its first park, Gro Tonka. Today, the city maintains five community parks and 44 neighborhood parks - and Gro Tonka is still with us.
The new picnic spot included a pavilion which featured metered electricity. Picnickers could deposit coins to get power. It was an innovation first introduced at a picnic shelter built in Columbia Park.
Shady Oak Beach and Play Area. This 85-acre recreational area offers 76 feet of sandy beach shoreline and clear spring-fed waters, as well as great amenities including swimming, multi-age playground area, lifeguards, high dive, concessions, changing area, rentals, sand volleyball and free parking.
Minnetonka Picnic Shelter Hours. Lone Lake and Gro Tonka: 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. Shady Oak Park: June 8 – Aug. 18, reservations are only available 4 – 8 p.m. Outside of these dates, the hours are 9 a.m. – Dusk. Beach restrooms are available during beach season. Outside of beach season, port-a-potties are available.

The pavilion is available for large groups April–November. This facility, a popular spot for weddings and corporate events, overlooks Whaletail Lake and the farm’s pastures and gardens. The firepit is available for rental year-round.
Noerenberg Memorial Gardens is known for its tranquility and spectacular beauty. Situated along the shore of Crystal Bay on Lake Minnetonka, Noerenberg is widely regarded as one of the finest formal gardens in Minnesota.

The Wirth Pavilion, one of our historic treasures, has undergone a vast face lift. With the Fireplace Room (59′ x 27′), two screened porches and the main room, there is enough space for up to 100 guests, seated.
