The Phalanges Party was founded in November 1936 by pharmacist Pierre Gemayel (1905 – 1984) and four other Christians in the wake of a visit to Germany, where Gemayel was a member of the Lebanese delegation to the infamous 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin.
