In eukaryotic cells, or cells with a nucleus, the stages of the cell cycle are divided into two major phases: interphase and the mitotic (M) phase. During interphase, the cell grows and makes a copy of its DNA. During the mitotic (M) phase, the cell separates its DNA into two sets and divides its cytoplasm, forming two new cells. Interphase.
The cell continues to grow but also prepares for what’s to come in the next phase. M (mitosis) phase: This is the phase in which cell division occurs. Figure 08-01 shows an overview of the stages of the cell cycle. Collectively, we consider G 1, S, and G 2 to be interphase (i.e., the phases “in between” M phase).

Aug 8, 2023 · Cytokinesis is the division of the cell’s cytoplasm, which forms two new cells. Some cells exit the cycle and enter G 0. Interphase (I): Interphase is the phase where the cell grows, replicates its DNA and prepares for division. G 1 phase: Cells grow following division and produce proteins and organelles. S phase: The synthesis phase is where ...
May 30, 2017 · Cell Cycle Definition. The cell cycle is a cycle of stages that cells pass through to allow them to divide and produce new cells. It is sometimes referred to as the “cell division cycle” for that reason. New cells are born through the division of their “parent” cell, producing two “daughter” cells from one single “parent” cell.
