The natural starting point to any visit to Dubrovnik is this imposing city gate, built in 1537. While crossing the drawbridge, imagine that this was once lifted every evening, the gate closed and the key handed to the rector.

Built in 1537, Pile Gate’s drawbridge, inner and outer sections, is the western entrance to the city and a good starting point for exploring the medieval walls.
Pile Gate is located between fort Bokar and Minceta Tower in the Western wall of Old Town. It is moments away from the West Harbour and a 5-minute walking distance from the Old Port. Pile Gate takes you directly to Stradun, in front of Onofrio’s Fountain.
