Oct 6, 2020 · Lyon Gardiner Tyler Jr., the grandson of the tenth president, passed away in September 2020. He was the last living descendant of a president born in the 18th century, and had no interest in following his ancestor's footsteps.
His paternal grandparents were Julia Gardiner and the tenth President of the United States John Tyler. Through his mother, he is a great-grandson of Edmund Ruffin, [2] and a descendant of Benjamin Harrison IV, Robert Carter I and Pocahontas. [3]
