GUIDELINES FOR SABBATICAL LEAVE PRESBYTERY OF CHICAGO. The Presbytery of Chicago recognizes that church professionals and congregations could greatly benefit if full-time church professionals could have the opportunity to negotiate and be granted a sabbatical leave.
Below is a list of all presbytery documents. You can find documents related to specific committee work on the page for that committee. And, look under the Resources menu for documents that will help the work various roles throughout the presbytery.
The following minimum standards are recommended: The clergy person shall have served for at least five years in the current congregation. Sabbatical leave is available to be taken after five years of service and should be taken after no more than seven years of service in the current congregation.

The request should include the specific purpose and plan, start and end dates, cost estimates, a strategy for delegation of duties and expected benefits for the individual and the church. A request from the Pastor for sabbatical leave will be submitted to the Chair of the Diaconate.
As many of you may recall from the Congregational Meeting in January, the Church Council announced that Pastor Lindsay will begin a sabbatical leave after the May 7 services that runs through Sunday, September 3. Many also may be wondering what a sabbatical is and how it benefits everyone involved.
How long will Chad be gone? Chad’s Renewal Leave will begin just after Easter on Monday, April 5. He will return to the office the week of June 20, and join us for worship on Sunday, June 27! Chad is eligible for a sabbatical of up to 6 months.
