Scene first emerged within the hardcore scene in 2002 through the term "scene queen" as a derogatory label for "posers" who care more about appearance than the actual music, generally preppy girls who started to dress alternative as a means of trying to attract band guys.

I was able to find one girl with Scene adjacent hair in a 2005–2006 yearbook, but I honestly think it might have just been a blonde emo cut, so I did not include it. I was also able to find plenty of scene-adjacent cuts in 2013–2014 and 2014–2015, but these were more akin to hipster or trendy Tumblr grunge hairstyles.
