Sleepless Domain is the webcomic this wiki is based on.

Mary Cagle has stated that she originally wanted to make a webcomic around the idea of a magical girl reality show, and while the plot changed heavily that idea eventually became Sleepless Domain.

It was announced July 29th, 2014 with the title Umbra Rising, as well as a scheduled release of early 2015. This was followed by art of the main characters.

In 2015, the name was officially changed to Sleepless Domain after behind the scenes requests were made by an artist working on a comic called Umbra Hearts. This change came alongside an announcement that the comic would launch April 1st. This was followed by more character art that showed the updated designs, which changed Tessa's hair to a darker shade of pink and gave Undine her signature curls and boots.

The first page of the comic was posted April 6th 2015, and the Sleepless Domain Tumblr continues to be used to announce new pages.

On November 5th 2015, it was announced that Oskar Vega, who was previously the comic's artist, would be leaving the comic to pursue his own work and that Mary would be the sole artist and writer of the comic.

•A very early version of Undine can be seen in March 2011 on Mary's Tumblr. There is no name given, but she is a blue, water-themed magical girl with the alchemical symbol for water on her chest.

•The comic uses Web Letterer font.

  4. Reading my physical copy of Sleepless Domain volume 1, pages 15 and 16 are a verso-recto spread. It's amazing how powerful this makes Sally look – a blaze of red on a mostly purple background. She is clearly a major character in the story! Sally takes an incredible buffet in 16 and gets up, none the worse for the wear.
