Socrates Sculpture Park is an outdoor museum and public park where artists can create and exhibit sculptures and multi-media installations. It is located one block from the Noguchi Museum at the intersection of Broadway and Vernon Boulevard in the neighborhood of Astoria, Queens, New York City.
Aug 21, 2019 · As recently as 1986, the Socrates Sculpture Park was a landfill and illegal dumpsite in Astoria, Queens. Now it's a stunning 4-acre park that is dedicated to showing public art. It's an exhibit space where artists can exhibit experimental, controversial, or simply beautiful pieces.

The story of this unique park demonstrates how a community can organize to reclaim and create a positive public space. Situated at the confluence of the Harlem and East Rivers, the site has a picturesque view of "Hell Gate," or "Hellegat" as originally named by the Dutch colonists.
For more information please call 718-956-1819 x105 or email info@socratessculpturepark.org. How big is the Park? Socrates spans five acres (about the size of one square New York City block) on the East river waterfront of Long Island City. The beach at Hallets Cove is also under the Park’s purview.
Since 1999, Socrates has activated the billboard above the main entrance to the Park with an ongoing series of artworks commissioned from established artists including John Giorno, Douglas Gordon, Michael Joo, Los Angeles Urban Rangers, Wangechi Mutu, Chitra Ganesh, and Duke Riley.
Socrates Sculpture Park. First carved out of an abandoned dump by sculptor Mark di Suvero, Socrates is now a city park on the river's edge with beautiful views and a rotating series of installations.
