Terence Chimes (born 5 July 1956, Stepney, London, England) [1] is an English musician, best known as the original drummer of punk rock group The Clash. He played with them from July 1976 to November 1976, January 1977 to April 1977, and again from May 1982 to February 1983 both preceding and succeeding his replacement Topper Headon.

In January 1977, The band signed to CBS and with drummer Terry Chimes recorded their peerless debut album ‘The Clash’, featuring classic numbers like ‘White Riot’, ‘I’m So Bored Of The USA’ and ‘London’s Burning’.
Aug 21, 2020 · Terry Chimes, who’d played in some of Jones’ previous bands, was finally brought in as a drummer. On July 4, the group played their first show, opening for The Sex Pistols at the Black Swan in Sheffield. It was Simonon who thought up the group’s name — the Clash, inspired by newspaper headlines that kept mentioning the word.
