In Greek mythology, Thoas (Ancient Greek: Θόας, "fleet, swift") was a son of the god Dionysus and Ariadne, the daughter of the Cretan king Minos. He was the king of Lemnos when the Lemnian women decided to kill all the men on the island.
He was king when Agamemnon's daughter Iphigenia was taken to the land of the Taurians, and became a priestess of Artemis there. He was a character in Euripides ' play Iphigenia among the Taurians . When the Lemnian women, enraged by jealousy, killed all the men on the island, Hypsipyle saved her father's life and helped him escape by boat (Heroides VI.139-140; Argonauticon II.311-430). Ysiphele, daughter of Thoas, is queen of Lemnos when Jason and his companions arrive, LGW 1465-1468.
