Feb 15, 2012 · For almost 20 years, the Newport Historical Society has provided access to local history to Newport’s residents and visitors, for free, through a series of street-based history panels than comprise a self-guided walking tour of the Historic Hill.
Self-Guided Walking Tour of Newport This tour touches on Newport’s 18 th century economy, practice of religious toleration, politics and the city’s diverse population – enslaved and free, during Newport’s colonial period.
Walking Tour Descriptions. Colonial Newport Lantern Tour: Enjoy a lantern-lit walk through Newport’s historic streets. Learn about Newport’s early history including stories of rebellion, revolution and religious liberty. This tour lasts approximately 75 minutes.
Historic walking tours throughout the city are offered through December 31st by the Newport Historical Society. All tours depart from the Museum of Newport History beginning at 11 AM, and last approximately 75 minutes.
