Platypus is the common name for a semi-aquatic, egg -laying mammal, Ornithorhynchus anatinus, endemic to eastern Australia, including Tasmania, and uniquely characterized by a snout like a duck 's bill, a broad and flat beaver -like tail, and webbed feet like an otter.
