   What's the difference between a SMLE & a MKIII?

   • The Rifle No1 was a "Millie" (spelt MLE), but the No1 MKIII was a SMLE (pronounced Smellie), but the rifle No 4 was not, just to confuse you more. The short magazine was the same length as the long one, but the rifles taking them were shorter & longer. Now you know the real reason why "Mad Dogs & Englishmen" go out in the mid-day sun!
