There are five major ethnic groups in Ecuador: Mestizo, European, Afroecuadorian, Amerindian, and Montubio. The 2022 census reported Mestizos constitute more than 77.5% of the population, 7.7% Amerindian, 7.7% Montubio, 4.8% Afro-Ecuadorian and 2.2% white.
