OHIO —Unemployment benefits are set to expire across the U.S. on Sept. 4 as several federal programs created during the COVID-19 pandemic are scheduled to end. Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) and Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) recipients will stop receiving benefits in the coming days.
COLUMBUS, OHIO – Unemployment claimants with non-fraud overpayments that they received at no fault of their own can now request waivers that, if approved, would absolve the claimant from repaying those funds to the state.
PEUC allows up to 13 additional weeks of benefits for individuals who have exhausted regular unemployment compensation under Ohio law and who have already used all of their PUA benefits. The PEUC extension applies to claims that begin after March 29, 2020, and end on Dec. 31, 2020.

The American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) was signed into law on March 11, 2021. That federal legislation expands upon the benefits already made available through the CARES Act and the CAA. Now, PUA, PUC, PEUC and MEUC will be extended beyond the expiration date of March 14, 2021 until September 6, 2021.
