Feb 29, 2020 · Shortly after the gramophone was invented in 1887, it became a hit choice for the rest of the 1890s. It became so famous that the US and the UK launched their coin-slot gramophones where people would put in pennies to play and record almost 150 plus titles of songs using gramophones.
By the early 1890s, Berliner had already launched the gramophone upon the market. The world's first samples of laterally-cut disc records were issued not in the United States, but in Germany. In 1887 Berliner had obtained patent coverage in both Germany and England for the gramophone.
However, the biggest innovation came in 1894 from the mind of United States inventor Emile Berliner. He devised a way for creation of flat shaped discs, and he renamed his graphophone design that utilized this disc as gramophone.

The American problems and requirements did not prevent Berliner, the inventor, from journeying to Germany in late 1889 in an attempt to establish a gramophone business there. By July of 1890, most obstacles to a commercial exploitation had been overcome and a marketing effort was begun.
By 1894, Berliner had created the United States Gramophone Company, which recoded and manufactured hundreds of records each year. The gramophone continued to be a strong presence in the recording industry and throughout households worldwide until the arrival of World War II.
