  3. Jun 15, 2012 · Ian’s father taught Primary 7 at Greenock Academy until 1951. Ian was a pupil there from 1946 till 1959 (in the Nelson Street building) in both primary and secondary departments. He was Head Boy of the school in session 1958-59.

  4. Ian has recently retired as sssistant head and teacher of chemistry in Greenock Academy. As official historian of Caledonian MacBrayne, he has published extensively on the vessels, sea routes, and piers of the Clyde and the Western Highlands. He was appointed MBE in 2007 ‘for services to Music and to the community in Inverclyde’.

Ian was born in Union Street, Greenock, on May 6, 1941, the night of the Greenock Blitz, and lived all his life in the town.
