Though the Watership Down warren eventually grew to seventeen rabbits with the additions of Strawberry, Holly, Bluebell, and three hutch rabbits liberated from the farm, the movie includes a band of only eight.
The story begins with two rabbits, Hazel and Fiver, who live in a warren in Sandleford. Fiver has a vision that their warren will be destroyed, and he convinces Hazel and a small group of rabbits to leave in search of a new home.
