Feb 26, 2008 · Benjamin Cronyn, first Anglican bishop of Huron (b at Kilkenny, Ire, 11 Jul 1802; d at London, Ont, 22 Sept 1871), father-in-law of Edward Blake and Samuel Hume Blake. Cronyn enjoyed a first-rate education at Kilkenny College and Trinity College in Dublin, earning the divinity prize and eventually 4 degrees at the latter.
Benjamin Cronyn (11 July 1802 – 21 September 1871) was the first bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Huron. Cronyn was born in Kilkenny , Ireland and educated at Trinity College, Dublin . [1] A member of the prominent Anglo-Irish Protestant Ascendancy Cronyn family, and a relative of Robert Whitehead , he emigrated to Canada in 1832.
Benjamin Cronyn was educated at Kilkenny College, and at 15 entered Trinity College in Dublin where he received his ba in 1822, ma in 1825, and, later, dd in 1855. He was divinity prizeman in 1824. In 1825 he was ordained deacon and served as curate at Tunstall, Kirkby Lonsdale, in Lancashire, England, until 1827 when he was ordained priest.

May 7, 2021 · Church of England clergyman Benjamin Cronyn was the first bishop of the Canadian diocese of Huron established in 1857. In 1863 he founded Huron University College in London, Ontario. Born in Kilkenny, Ireland, he was the son of Thomas Cronyn and Margaret Barton. He married Margaret Ann Bickerstaff in 1826.
