Salford Reds became Salford City Reds in 1999 reportedly because Salford Council wanted their financial support for the club to be recognised, so their name was changed to emphasise the city status of Salford.

Feb 13, 2024 · Salford City Council has agreed a decision to take full ownership of the Salford Community Stadium, the home to Betfred Super League’s Salford Red Devils and Premiership Rugby Union side Sale Sharks. The stadium officially opened in 2012 and has already hosted the Rugby League World Cup in 2013.
