- Diamond-Star Halo. The Mitsubishi Eclipse burst onto the scene in 1989 as a ’90 model, during a peak period for compact sports coupes. Built at the Mitsubishi/Chrysler plant in Normal, Illinois, this Mitsubishi was sold also by Chrysler dealers (as was the custom).
- If at First You Do Succeed. The Eclipse was sold in both naturally aspirated and turbocharged form, with the latter version making 190 horsepower from 2.0 liters.
- Fleeting Youth. The sports-coupe market was cruelly youth obsessed, and already, at the tender age of four, the Eclipse was being outshined by fresher competitors.
