Yusuke isn't a demon, just partially demon from a distant ancestor. I know you know that, but just in case someone here thinks he's secretly like Hiei or Kurama, he's mostly human but can summon demon energy later on.
Honestly, I believe that Yusuke’s transformation has always been foreshadowed in the story when Yusuke would emit red Demon aura in some situations, most notably during the Younger Toguro fight when Toguro killed Kuwabara.
