Long before the Rev. Robert P. Mitchell was a “reverend,” he sang opera for over thirty years. He appeared in fifteen productions with New York’s Amato Opera Company alone, and in numerous productions with fourteen other “minor league” companies in the NY-NJ metro area.
From early childhood, Bob sang, mostly for fun, but also for church and school. Born in Pennsylvania, he grew up in Lock Haven, graduating high school in 1957. But it was 1954 when his mother took him to hear movie tenor Mario Lanza sing in the movie, Student Prince, that his life was changed.
