Carl Schmitt (May 6, 1889 – October 25, 1989 [1]) was an American painter, etcher, pastelist, and writer. Life. Education and early career. Schmitt was born in Warren, Ohio, the son of Jacob A. Schmitt (1861–1952), a music professor and organist, and Grace Tod Wood Schmitt (1864–1949).
Carl Schmitt (1889–1989) was an American artist who developed over his long career a unique aesthetic vision that assimilated traditional European approaches to art with modern movements. Through this integration he arrived at a unique approach to painting which informed more than just his work.

What has prompted me to look at his work again is the publication of a beautiful book of his work called Carl Schmitt, The Vision of Beauty.
