Marc Forster was hired to direct the film in 2008. After a bidding war with Leonardo DiCaprio's production company Appian Way Productions, Brad Pitt's Plan B Entertainment secured the screen rights to Max Brooks' novel in 2007.
Forster directed the film adaptation of the novel World War Z, starring Brad Pitt, which Paramount announced at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con. The film opened 21 June 2013 to more than $66 million and has grossed more than $540 million worldwide.
