- Proofs in Competition Math. Volume 1. Alexander Toller, Dennis Chen, Freya Edholm. (You?) | 2019 | 4.59. All too often, math is presented formulaically and independently of exposition, with little to no contextualization or applicable real-world connection.
- Category Theory in Context. Emily Riehl. (You?) | 2016 | 4.59. Category theory has provided the foundations for many of the twentieth century's greatest advances in pure mathematics.
- Methods of Solving Number Theory Problems. Ellina Grigorieva. (You?) | 2018 | 4.58. Through its engaging and unusual problems, this book demonstrates methods of reasoning necessary for learning number theory.
- An Illustrated Theory of Numbers. Martin H. Weissman. (You?) | 2017 | 4.58. Note: Always available directly from the publisher at the American Mathematical Society Bookstore!
I would recommend the dover book $\mathit{Number\,\,Theory}$ by George R. Andrews, which is extremely friendly too beginners but also does a good job at giving an overview of all topics in the general "elementary number theory" umbrella.
- Fermat's Enigma. The Epic Quest to Solve the World's Greatest Mathematical Problem. Simon Singh | 5.00. "I have discovered a truly marvelous proof, which this margin is too narrow to contain".
- Gödel, Escher, Bach. An Eternal Golden Braid. Douglas R. Hofstadter | 4.74. Douglas Hofstadter's book is concerned directly with the nature of “maps” or links between formal systems.
- Zero. The Biography of a Dangerous Idea. Charles Seife | 4.62. The Babylonians invented it, the Greeks banned it, the Hindus worshipped it, and the Church used it to fend off heretics.
- Elementary Number Theory. David Burton | 4.48. Written for the one-semester undergraduate number theory course, this text provides a simple account of classical number theory, set against a historical background that shows the subject's evolution from antiquity.
Feb 4, 2010 · Written in David Burton’s engaging style, Elementary Number Theory reveals the attraction that has drawn leading mathematicians and amateurs alike to number theory over the course of history.
