Originally from Columbus, Ohio, R.L. Stine didn't immediately start out scaring kids. Originally, he made them laugh. After graduating from Ohio State University, Stine wrote joke and humor books for 10 years. In 1986, he wrote his first teen horror novel, Blind Date. A couple years later, he created the Fear Street series and then Goosebumps.
