Scott was one of the best American climbers of his day. Unfortunately, like his competitor and friend Rob Hall, he made the mistake of Summiting Everest too late in the day and never made it down. His body is still up there, I think. He helped a sick client down the mountain previously, and was utterly exhausted by the time he Summited.
