Saint Augustine's University is a private historically black Christian college in Raleigh, North Carolina. It was founded by Episcopal clergy in 1867 for the education of freed slaves.
Saint Augustine’s University (SAU) was established in 1867 in Raleigh, NC by the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina. A four-year liberal arts university with an average enrollment of approximately 1,000, SAU sits on 105 lush acres just north of Downtown Raleigh.
Saint Augustine’s University’s track and field programs have won an astounding 39 national championships, and have produced over 40 Olympians including three gold medalists. On August 1, 2012, Saint Augustine’s College transitioned in name and status to Saint Augustine’s University.
