Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a treatment for aortic valve stenosis. In this condition, also called aortic stenosis, the heart's aortic valve thickens and becomes stiff and narrow. As a result, the valve can't fully open and blood flow to the body is reduced. TAVR is an alternative to open-heart aortic valve replacement surgery.
TAVR or TAVI is a minimally invasive procedure where a new valve is inserted without removing the old, damaged valve. The new valve is placed inside the diseased valve. Patients who cannot tolerate surgery for aortic valve replacement may be good candidates for a less invasive approach called TAVI or TAVR.

Mar 24, 2022 · Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), also known as TAVR or transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), is a procedure to treat aortic stenosis, a narrowing of the aortic valve. The narrowing blocks the flow of blood to your body and forces your heart to work harder.
What is TAVR? (TAVI) During this minimally invasive procedure a new valve is inserted without removing the old, damaged valve. The new valve is placed inside the diseased valve. The surgery may be called a transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) or transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). Valve-within-valve — How does it work?
