La Cañada Flintridge, commonly known as just La Cañada (Spanish for 'The Canyon'), is a city in the foothills of the Verdugo Mountains in Los Angeles County, California, United States. Located in the Crescenta Valley, in the western edge of the San Gabriel Valley, it is the location of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
Nestled in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, the City of La Cañada Flintridge is a unique and beautiful place to live, work and play. Incorporated since November 30, 1976, the City is a “contract city.” It has a small full-time staff and contracts for many of the services provided to its citizens.
La Cañada Flintridge is a semi-rural community located only 13 miles north of Los Angeles. Despite its location on the country’s second most populous metropolitan area, it manages to hold tight to its equestrian/hiking/bicycling culture that has been years in the making.
La Cañada Flintridge means “glen between the hills.” We were incorporated as a general law city on Nov. 30, 1976. A low-key lifestyle centered on children and community is central to the city’s 20,501 residents.
