1969 Colebrook River Dam, dedicated on June 27, 1969. The total cost, including 7 miles of Rt. 8 in Conn. and Mass. was $14,400,000. The maximum amount of water stored behind this dam is16 billion gallons, although the normal amount is 10 billion, the rest being an emergency reserve in case of flooding.

Jan 20, 2021 · Colebrook Lake is a flood control system run by the Army Core of Engineers to regulate the flows through the West Branch of the Farmington River. The outflow from the dam feeds the West Branch Reservoir which in turn is held back by the Goodwin Dam.

Colebrook River Lake is a multipurpose water resource impoundment built for flood control, water supply, low flow augmentation and fishery enhancement. MDC operates a hydroelectric power facility at the Colebrook River Dam. The Goodwin Dam area is open for recreation the same hours as West Hartford and Reservoir 6, sunrise to sunset.
Directions: From Winsted, 6 miles north on CT 8. Factoid: The 700-acre lake is open seasonally for fishing and boating and has a large boat ramp available. The lake and river are stocked with trout by the State. The fall foliage season offers spectacular views from atop the dam and from vessels while boating on the reservoir.
