Dec 24, 2015 · Cowles Mountain via Barker Way (Mission Trails Regional Park) Cowles Mountain is the tallest point within the City of San Diego, and one of the most popular hikes in the county. There are several different routes up the mountain, the most popular being the southern route starting at Golfcrest and Navajo.
The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. The road less traveled meets the road even lesser traveled. This loop hike is an unconventional route up to the Cowles Mountain summit via Big Rock Park and a “secret” trail that cuts across the north face of Cowles over to the Pyles Peak Trail.
