Jan 30, 2024 · Uniform and Equipment Requirements. Recruit officers must maintain a complete uniform in their assigned locker at the Metropolitan Police Academy. Any Department-issued items or equipment (e.g., handcuffs, radio, Sam-brown belt, jacket/raincoat) must be kept at the Academy in the Recruit officer’s assigned locker.

In October 2018 the MPD switched to a new uniform for Officers through Sergeants consisting of an outer load bearing vest with a patch on the back saying "METROPOLITAN POLICE" in white lettering. The color of the uniform also changed from the previous light powder blue to a dark navy blue, similar to the NYPD .
