Franz Joseph Strauss (26 February 1822 – 31 May 1905) was a German musician. He was a composer, a virtuoso horn player and accomplished performer on the guitar, clarinet and viola.
He is chiefly remembered, however, as the father of the great Richard Strauss, one of Germany's finest composers. Born illegitimately on 26 February 1822 in Parkstein, Bavaria, Franz Strauss was the latest in a long line of musicians on his mother's side.

- Johann Strauss I (1804-1849) The foundations of the Strauss musical dynasty began with Johann Strauss I, born in Leopoldstadt, Vienna. Orphaned by the age of 12, the young Johann was apprenticed to a bookbinder while taking lessons in the violin and viola.

Franz Joseph Strauss (26 February 1822 – 31 May 1905) was a German musician. He was a composer, a virtuoso horn player and accomplished performer on the guitar, clarinet and viola. He was principal horn player of the Bavarian Court Opera for more than 40 years, a teacher at the Royal School of Music, Munich, and a conductor.
