Massimo Troisi ( Italian pronunciation: [ˈmassimo troˈiːzi]; 19 February 1953 – 4 June 1994) was an Italian actor, cabaret performer, screenwriter, and film director. He is best known for his works in the films I'm Starting back from Three (1981) and Il Postino: The Postman (1994), for which he was posthumously nominated for two Oscars.
On June 4th, 1994, Massimo Troisi passed away, just twelve days after finishing Il Postino. He would never see the critical acclaim, the worldwide accolades, nor the Oscar nomination he would later garner.
