May 19, 2024 · On the morning of 19 March 1997, Michael de Guzman, chief geologist at Canadian mining company Bre-X Minerals, boarded a helicopter flight to travel to a remote jungle site in Indonesia.
The fraud began to unravel rapidly beginning on March 19, 1997, when Bre-X geologist Michael de Guzman reportedly died of suicide by jumping from a helicopter in Indonesia. A body was found four days later in the jungle, missing the hands and feet, "surgically removed". In addition, the body was reportedly mostly eaten by animals.
For more than eight years, that was all we knew about the mysterious death of Michael de Guzman. Lots of theories, deep doubts, and nothing more. But a couple of weeks ago, the ghost of Bre-X reappeared.

Bre-X Minerals regretted to report the death of Michael de Guzman in a fall from a helicopter. Some analysts speculated that he probably fell out of the helicopter as it was hopping around site where geologists often get lax with safety protocols.
