- LaTraveler14. Monroe, LA15 contributions. A relaxing afternoon in a beautiful setting! This is a lovely former home of the Biedenharns. The gardens are kept beautifully and there is a lovely fountain in the back.

- Masur Museum of Art. In 1963 the Masur Family of Monroe gifted their Tudor-style mansion and exceptional art collection to the city. Now the Masur Museum of Art is the largest attraction of its kind in Northeast Louisiana, with a fantastic inventory of 19th-century and modern art.
- Biedenharn Museum & Gardens. One local figure who made a considerable impact on modern life is the entrepreneur Joseph A. Biedenharn (1864-1952). He is known for being the first to bottle Coca-Cola, previously only a soda fountain beverage, in 1894, and moved the bottling business to Monroe in 1913.
- Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge. North of Monroe you can escape to this 4,200-acre wildlife refuge, composed of a patchwork of habitats including a lake, bottomland hardwoods, swamp and mixed pine and hardwood uplands.
- Chennault Aviation and Military Museum. A fascinating figure who spent much of his life in Monroe was military aviator Claire Lee Chennault (1893-1958), remembered for leading the First American Volunteer Group (AVG) aka the “Flying Tigers” and the Chinese Air Force in WWII.
- Enjoy a Coke for 5 cents at the Coca-Cola Museum. Though the Coca Cola Museum is situated in the estate of Biedenharn Museum & Gardens, it deserves to be mentioned as an attraction of its own.

May 7, 2024 · Monroe, city, seat (1807) of Ouachita parish, northeastern Louisiana, U.S., on the Ouachita River, opposite West Monroe. It was founded in 1785, when a group of French pioneers from southern Louisiana under Don Juan (later John) Filhiol, a Frenchman in the Spanish service, established Fort Miro.
Monroe is the largest city in northeast Louisiana, named for a steamboat that ventured up the Ouachita River in 1819. It offers museums, cultural events, restaurants and riverfront views.
