The Princess Bride is a 1987 American fantasy adventure comedy film directed and co-produced by Rob Reiner and starring Cary Elwes, Mandy Patinkin, Chris Sarandon, Christopher Guest, Wallace Shawn, André the Giant, and Robin Wright.
- Cary Elwes – Westley. Cary Elwes of Saw fame plays love-struck farmhand Westley who falls hard for Princess Buttercup. After leaving the fictional land of Florin to seek his fortune, he is attacked by pirates and presumed dead only to return five years later to find his beloved betrothed to another and kidnapped by outlaws.
- Robin Wright – Princess Buttercup. Played by House Of Cards’ Robin Wright, Buttercup is the Princess Bride of the title. After Westley goes missing Buttercup is forced to into an engagement with the odious Prince Humperdinck who plans to kill the princess-to-be and blame it on a neighboring country for political gain.
- Chris Sarandon – Prince Humperdinck. The sleazy Humperdinck is played by Chris Sarandon who also voiced Jack Skellington in The Nightmare Before Christmas.
- Wallace Shawn – Vizzini. Legend has it Danny DeVito was almost cast as villain Vizzini but it’s hard to imagine anyone other than Wallace Shawn playing him.
- Cary Elwes. Since appearing as Westley, the charming farmboy who steals Princess Buttercup's heart, Elwes has built up a long resumé in Hollywood, starring in a number of films, including Academy Award-winning Glory, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Ella Enchanted, The Jungle Book, Saw and more.
- Robin Wright. Although Robin Wright is more recently known for her roles as Claire Underwood in Netflix hit political drama House of Cards and General Antiope in Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman, Wright started out as Buttercup in The Princess Bride when she was only 21 years old.
- Chris Sarandon. Before taking on the role of Prince Humperdinck, Sarandon made his film debut as Leon Shermer in Dog Day Afternoon, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe.
