May 16, 2024 · The New York Stadium was opened in 2012 and is located not far away from their old Millmoor ground where they played for 101 years. The area of Rotherham where the ground is located is historically known as New York (hence the stadium name) and is built on the site of the old Guest & Chrimes factory.
New York Stadium was built to provide Rotherham United with a new permanent home after they were forced to leave their traditional home Millmoor and temporarily move into Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield. Rotherham obtained planning permission in 2010, and started construction in the summer of 2011. The stadium came at a cost of £20 million.
