Arena Season 9 (Vicious) commenced on 14 December 2010, one week after the release of Cataclysm and ended on June 28, 2011, coinsiding with the release of patch 4.2.0. The season lasted 28 weeks.
Season 9 is notable for being the first season with rated battlegrounds. It also introduced some new features such as War Games, which are player managed unrated arena battles.

Bloodthirsty Gladiator
•Sold by T'Maire Sydes in Stormwind, Blood Guard Zar'shi in Orgrimmar for [Honor Points]. •Weapons, off-hands, wands and relics were not sold or otherwise attainable despite being found in the game files.
Vicious Gladiator
•Sold by Captain Dirgehammer in Stormwind, and Sergeant Thunderhorn in Orgrimmar.
Elite Vicious Gladiator
•Sold by Lieutenant Tristia in Stormwind, Doris Chiltonius in Orgrimmar or Nargle Lashcord in Dalaran. •Required the equivalent non-elite Vicious Gladiator item in addition to [Honor Points]. •Required 2200 Personal rating in 3v3 or 5v5 Arena, or Rated Battleground. •The items are recolors of the Vicious Gladiator set.
May 13, 2024 · Season 9 sets the stage for a dynamic PvP experience. New Raid Dungeons: The Battle Begins May 30 Beginning on May 30 at 3:00 pm PDT globally, level 85 players will be able to take their first steps into three raid dungeons: The Bastion of Twilight, Blackwing Descent, and Throne of the Four Winds.
