Solothurn (/ ˈ s oʊ l ə t ʊər n, ˈ z oʊ-/ SOH-lə-toorn, ZOH-, German: [ˈzoːlotʊrn] ⓘ; French: Soleure; Italian: Soletta; Romansh: Soloturn ⓘ) is a town, a municipality, and the capital of the canton of Solothurn in Switzerland.
Solothurn is regarded as the finest Baroque town in Switzerland, where Italian grandeur is combined with French charm and German practicality. The so-called «ambassador’s town» is at the southern end of the Jura by the River Aare, about 30 km east of Biel/Bienne.

Solothurn is a town in Switzerland, in the Berne Region at the southern edge of the Jura Mountains, on the River Aare, the capital of the canton of Solothurn. It's also known as St. Ursen City, Wengi City, the City of Ambassadors. Some say it's Switzerland's most beautiful baroque city and the city of culture.
- Follow the number 11. Solothurn is all about the number 11. For starters, you'll find 11 historical fountains scattered throughout the old town. There’s a total of 11 museums, 11 churches/chapels, this crazy clock that counts only 11 instead of 12 hours and a local beer called öufi.
- Enjoy the view from St. Ursus Cathedral. Speaking of the cathedral, the views from the top of its tower are fantastic. On a clear day, you can see the Bernese Alps in the south, including the famous mountain-trio Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.
- Go on a pilgrimage to Verenaschlucht. Whenever I feel like going for a walk and don't know where else to go, I head to the hermitage at the end of Verenaschlucht.
- Go for a hike in the Jura mountains. As you arrive in Solothurn, you'll notice the Jura rising right behind the city. Switzerland and France share this mountain range that pretty much covers the whole north-western part of Switzerland.
