Mark the Evangelist [a] also known as John Mark or Saint Mark, is the person who is traditionally ascribed to be the author of the Gospel of Mark. Modern Bible scholars have concluded that the Gospel of Mark was written by an anonymous author rather than an identifiable historical figure.
Saint Mark (flourished 1st century ad, ; b. Jerusalem?—died, traditionally Alexandria, Egypt; Western feast day April 25, Eastern feast day September 23) was the traditional author of the second Synoptic Gospel. Data on his life found in the New Testament are fragmentary, and most of their historicity has been questioned by critical investigation.

Much of what we know about St. Mark, the author of the Second Gospel, comes largely from the New Testament and early Christian traditions.
