The Medal of Honor, established at the beginning of the Civil War in 1861, is awarded to individuals in the U.S. Armed Forces who distinguish themselves "above and beyond the call of duty." For their acts of valor during the Vietnam War, more than 250 individuals have been awarded this medal.
