Oct 22, 2022 · Weimar is one of the most historic sites in Germany. It was home of Goethe and Schiller, the two most famous German poets and writers.
Weimar is the town of Goethe and Schiller and is found in Thuringia (Thüringen) state, Germany. It is one of the all-time favourites with German school classes (or rather their teachers) because of the high density of both cultural (Goethe, Schiller) and historic (Weimar republic, a former Nazi concentration camp close by) sights.

- Duchess Anna Amalia Library. The Herzogin-Anna-Amalia Bibliothek is probably the most important library for books from the Age of Enlightenment and the Late Romantic in the German-speaking countries.
- Schloss Belvedere. Weimar has a very good public transport network and it really pays off to hop on a bus to the outskirts of the city where you will find Belvedere Palace.
- Bauhaus Museum. The end of the 19th century was a turning point in human history. While most of the populace was still caught in the throws of Historicism, artists like Walter Gropius and Henry van de Velde tried to expand the previous notion of art and how you’d run an art academy.
- Goethe’s House & museum. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe – you could not attend a German class without hearing the name at least ones. Quite like Shakespear, he revolutionized German drama and even our language.
- The Duchess Anna Amalia Library. Our first port of call of the day was the Duchess Anna Amalia Library at Democracy Square, which was founded in 1691 as the “Ducal Library”.
- The Weimar City Palace. Within walking distance of the Anna Amalia Library is the Weimar City Palace, which had unfortunately closed at the time of our visit due to extensive renovation work.
- In the footsteps of Goethe and Schiller. The most prominent representatives of Weimar are certainly Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Friedrich von Schiller.
- The Old Town. The Old Town of Weimar offers a very special flair with its cobbled, partly winding streets, historic buildings and the central market square.
