    • LAWRENCE KANE. Why Suspected: Kane worked in the same Lake Tahoe hotel as Donna Lass, who disappeared in 1970 and may have been another Zodiac victim.
    • ROSS SULLIVAN. Why Suspected: The 1966 murder of Cheri Jo Bates in Riverside, Ca. bore many similarities to the Zodiac killings. Staffers at the Riverside City College library, near where Bates’s body was found, said a coworker, Ross Sullivan, had made them uncomfortable and disappeared for several days after the murder.

  4. While many theories regarding the identity of the Zodiac have been suggested, the only suspect authorities ever publicly named was Arthur Leigh Allen, a former elementary school teacher and convicted sex offender who died in 1992.

    • Arthur Leigh Allen. Heavily favored by cartoonist turned true crime writer, Robert Graysmith, suspect Arthur Leigh Allen became the main focus of his book, Zodiac, which in turn popularized the belief that Allen was the killer.
    • Ross Sullivan. Ross Sullivan was suspected in the 1966 murder of Riverside City College student Cheri Jo Bates and while the case remains unsolved, it is believed by some investigators that Bates was the Zodiac's first victim.
    • Jack Tarrance. In 2007 Dennis Kaufman claimed that his stepfather, Jack Tarrance, was the Zodiac killer. Though Tarrance died in 2006, Kaufman produced several pieces of evidence that he believed incriminated his stepfather in the murders.
    • Earl Van Best Jr. Gary Stewart published his 2014 true crime book, The Most Dangerous Animal Of All, alongside author Susan Mustafa in an effort to name his biological father, Earl Van Best Jr., as the now notorious Zodiac killer.
