He is the editor of the book series “Music and Performing Arts of Asia and the Pacific,” University of Hawaii Press. Prior to teaching in Hong Kong since 2018, he was professor of Ethnomusicology at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and California Polytechnic State University.
The Department of Ethnomusicology, the largest and first of its kind in a U.S. university, offers courses that cover the music of virtually every region of the world and of many ethnic groups in the U.S., as well as courses on popular music and film music.
